Dear RC16 Colleagues and associates

We regret to inform you that the local organising committee and the co-Presidents of RC16 have made the decision to postpone the mid-term conference ‘Between progress and apocalypse: sociological theory in the twentieth-first century’ that was to be held 2-4 July, 2020 at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. The associated international mini-conference on civil sphere theory being organised by Jeffrey Alexander that was to be held in Brno immediately prior to the RC meeting has also been postponed. We made this difficult decision due to the ongoing and escalating health risks and internal travel disruption caused by the Covid19 virus.

This change may cause inconvenience as I know some delegates had already made travel arrangements. However, the health of our members and to the community at large is our primary concern.

We would like to thank the organisers of the conference and mini-conference for agreeing to host the RC16 mid-term conference and civil sphere mini-conference in Brno a year later July 1 to 3, 2021. Papers acceptances already made will be honoured and a new call for papers will be made in due course. The RC16 conference theme of ‘Between progress and apocalypse’ certainly remains relevant as does attempts to theorise how social binding can be structured in fair ways.

Details about the 2021 RC16 conference will be communicated in the coming months through the RC16 newsletter and via the conference website: https://isatheory-conf.fss.muni.cz

Sincerely,
Craig Browne and Brad West
Co-Presidents, RC16 International Sociological Association
